Born in Chicago, raised on the West Side's North Lawndale neighborhood, Ida's career started as an insurance broker, transitioned as a Business Banker for JP Morgan Chase, then Branch Manager for SunTrust in GA. Missing her family and friends, she moved back to Chicago, and in just a few years, her life would never be the same.
After being laid off during the pandemic, Ida reimagined her entrepreneurial skills - unclear about the next step - took one look over her shoulder, and there sat the ice cream maker she had ordered from Amazon. The purchase sparked initially by introducing a fun, new way for her and her family to enjoy the summer. Ida took her AMAZING cooking skills and applied them to making everyone's favorite dessert - ice cream! - and in 2020, Ida's Artisan Ice Cream and Treats was formed.
Ida hasn't stopped here, she uses her business as a conduit for change, and introduced Ice Cream Social...Awareness:
"I want to be able to shine a light on that community and empower people and show what good can come from Lawndale because we have a bad reputation. There's high poverty and high crime, but there's a lot of outstanding people in that community that need a chance or some sort of motivation."
